Internal Control Failures Paper Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Interior Control Failures Paper - Essay Example It was discovered that most instances of interior control disappointments were brought about by people outside to the firm, the executives level and non-the executives level workers, mentality of representatives towards morals and misrepresentation, and absence of severe announcing and twofold control quantifies inside the association (Chrorafas, 2000). The fundamental issue was that top administration didn't bolster inside control techniques. In certain quarters, this venture was respected with extraordinary attentiveness, yet there additionally was alert about seeming to assault the possibility of an applied structure plainly on the grounds that the rationale of looking for such a reason for dynamic was hard to pounce upon. Consequently, in both the structure and financing settings, individual interests are given more prominent thought than innovative, natural, or monetary possibility (Macdonald 2001, p. 1011). The reason for the bank precariousness and the related wastefulness is to be found in a particular attribute of the money related intermediation action: development change. The bank depends on fragmentary stores. As buyers have irregular requirements for liquidity, a budgetary delegate can offer a liquidity protection while holding in real money just a small amount of the sum saved and putting some portion of the store in longer-term and moderately illiquid ventures. This expands the government assistance of contributors yet it likewise causes insecurity. Task disappointments demonstrate the need to change approaches and inside control strategies. Bank automatic resettlement strategy requires resettlement intends to repay relocatees, by either improving or reestablishing the monetary base of thos e moved (Macdonald 2001, p. 1011). This circumstance prompts lack of assets and execution of stricter budgetary arrangements. The financing of exceptionally illiquid extends on the universal markets depends on moderately momentary obligation, and a run of loan bosses may lead a nation into major dilemma regardless of whether it would somehow or another have had no issues in overhauling its obligations (Chrorafas, 2000). What's more, the Bank bears extraordinary obligation regarding resettlement issues in the readiness and evaluation of ventures since this period before marking advances is the point at which the Bank has greatest contribution and influence (Macdonald 2001, p. 1011). These disappointments impact inside control strategies and new interior arrangements. The thing that matters is that the principles of-direct methodology prompts moderately little and inconsistent

Understanding the Acid Trip Experience

Understanding the Acid Trip Experience Addiction Drug Use Hallucinogens Print Understanding the Acid Trip Experience By Elizabeth Hartney, BSc., MSc., MA, PhD Elizabeth Hartney, BSc, MSc, MA, PhD is a psychologist, professor, and Director of the Centre for Health Leadership and Research at Royal Roads University, Canada. During this period of intoxication, users experience a wide variety of effects, most often visual and other sensory distortions, changes to thought processes, intense emotions, including euphoria, and occasionally for some people, surprising new insights. An acid trip is a lengthy process, typically lasting 8 to 12 hours.?? With the distortions in time perception that occur as an effect of the drug, the experience can feel much longerâ€"some say they feel like it could last forever. This can be highly enjoyable when the mood of the user and those around is buoyant or contented, but extremely unsettling when moods are low and thoughts take a somber or even macabre turn. Verywell / Jessica Olah Why Do People Take Acid Trips? LSD is typically used for recreational and social reasons more than for self-medication. However, some people believe that the effects of hallucinogens help them  gain insight into themselves, their lives, and the nature of the universe, and even that it helps them to access greater awareness of spirituality. Unpredictability is the name of the game. Chronic LSD users embrace exploring the unknown  and the sense of excitement of  not knowing what will happen next. However, people who dislike unpredictability may find the experience of tripping on acid scaryâ€"even if nothing overly frightening happensâ€"simply because of the profound distortions in perception and thought that occurs.?? If you like to know what to expect, you probably wont enjoy tripping and should stay away from LSD and other hallucinogens. LSD can trigger a variety of mental health problems and can trigger feelings of spiritual alienation as well as spiritual awareness. Good Trip and a Bad Trip Differences Most people who take acid are hoping for  and expecting a good trip. The experience of being on acid is often described as dream-like, so one way of understanding the difference between a good trip and a bad trip is to equate it with the difference between a good dream and a nightmare. A good trip can feel pleasantâ€"the world can seem beautiful, life can seem wonderful, human interactions can seem deep and meaningful. In contrast, a bad trip can bring overwhelming feelings of fearâ€"the world can seem harsh, cold, and ugly, life can seem painful, people can seem superficial and cruel. The emotions that accompany an acid trip, whether good or bad, can seem overwhelming, difficult to control, and as if they will never go away. While this experience can be pleasant if the trip is going well, a bad trip is  unpleasant and frightening for the person going through it as well as for  those around. There can be a fear of going crazy or losing ones mind, as well as intense feelings of paranoia. These feelings can seem unbearable and the person may even have temporary suicidal feelings, although death by suicide is rare in people who are high on acid. It may be helpful to reassure someone who is experiencing a bad trip that you are there for them, that they  are not going crazy, just that they are experiencing the effects of acid, and that they are safe and nobody is out to get them. Visual Distortions and Hallucinations Distortions to the way that you see things is a hallmark of the LSD experience.?? Visual distortions can take a variety of formsâ€"for example, some appear like an overlay or outline of geometric or swirling patterns, others are described as a change in the perceived size or shape of objects. Others can best be described as  static objects appearing to move, such as walls appearing to breathe. Sensory perceptions can get mixed up, resulting in synesthesia. Synesthesia occurs when stimuli that are typically perceived through one sense are perceived through another, such as seeing sounds, or hearing smells. Hallucinations are sensory experiences that seem real when they are not. These commonly happen during an acid trip. They  may come and go in an instant. They could include: Auditory hallucinations (hearing things that arent there)Tactile hallucinations (feeling things that are not there)Olfactory hallucinations  (smelling things that are not there)Gustatory hallucinations (tasting things that are not there). However, visual distortions are by far the most commonly reported type of sensory distortion from LSD. You can imagine how confusing it is to be surrounded by several types of visual distortions at once. Although people on acid are generally aware that what they are seeing and feeling is part of the drug experience, it can nonetheless  be difficult to clearly differentiate between what is real and what is not real. Usually, people on acid can go with the flow and ride out the visual distortions, which usually get more intense during the first couple hours of the trip, then get less intense for the remaining six or so hours. But sometimes people under the influence of LSD panic, are frightened by what they are seeing, or react inappropriately to their surroundings. It is important for someone in this state not to go off on their own, as they can be prone to accidents and misadventure, sometimes leading to injury or even death. Changes in Thought Processes LSD typically changes the way people feel about themselves, other people, and the world, and this can happen in positive or negative ways.?? How a given individual will be affected is extremely unpredictable. No one takes LSD hoping or expecting to have a bad trip. Although some accept the possibility as a risk worth taking, others do not believe it will happen to them until it does. Many acid users believe that having had some good trips, they wont have a bad trip. When a bad trip occurs, it can be a blow to a persons self-esteem. Many drug users pride themselves on being able to handle the effects of drugs or think that enjoying drugs like acid is an indicator of a strong or good personality. The changes that people experience in their feelings about themselves while on LSD is often described as a breakdown of their ego, or sense of self. Previously held beliefs about who you are and what matters to you can shift temporarily or permanently. This is sometimes described positively. People may become more understanding of the plight of others, get in touch with inner strengths, or feel more spiritually connected or enlightened. But the breakdown of the ego can equally be described negatively. People may feel their life is meaningless, that the world is heartless, or that the human race is a ship of fools, and this can be profoundly alienating and depressing. Occasionally, these feelings can lead to suicidal or destructive impulses. It is very important to keep a person who is high on acid in a safe, secure environment until the effects of the drug wear off. Always call 911 if someone who seems to be having a bad trip goes off on their own, or is in a potentially dangerous environment, for example, if they are able to access heights, bridges, railroads, or heavy traffic. LSD can lead to serious errors in judgment. Side Effects of LSD Intoxication Many of the effects described above could be viewed as side effects of LSD intoxication if the intention of the person taking it was just a party buzz. Other documented negative effects of acid use are thought to be a result of the stimulation of the sympathetic nervous system. Common Side Effects Increased heart rate Raised blood pressure Excessive sweating Serious Side Effects Hyperthermia (dangerously high body temperature that can lead to muscle and kidney damage) Dehydration Risks to personal safety A dangerously raised body temperature, a condition is known as hyperthermia, can occur. There have been a few reported cases of rhabdomyolysis, a condition in which muscles break down and can cause kidney damage, during LSD intoxication. These are medical risks that potential users should be aware of.?? Coming Down From  an Acid Trip Acid trips tend to be quite tiring, and yet it may be difficult to eat or sleep, even during the latter stages of the trip. If the drug was taken in the evening, it is likely that the person will be awake all night, and well into the following day. If it is was taken in the morning, users may continue to feel alerted well into the night. Although the hallucinations, delusions, and other effects of the drug gradually wear off, and normality returns, it is important to stay physically and psychologically healthy, as trips can turn bad even at the end. As the drug can cause excessive sweating, it is important to take in adequate fluid, without drinking so much plain water you risk water intoxication. It is a good idea to avoid caffeine, alcohol, and other substances which can impair your mood and mental state. Food, when it can be tolerated, adequate fluid, and the company of calm, familiar, non-judgemental people can all help with easing the process of coming down from an acid trip. Relaxing and listening to soothing music can be pleasant and ease the transition to reality. Sleep is important, so winding down and going to bed when able to sleep will help. Addiction to Acid Most people who take acid do so only occasionally, and many people are put off from taking the drug again after they have a bad trip. Tolerance to LSD develops very quickly, to the extent that users may not experience intoxication if they take the drug on successive days. Unlike most other recreational drugs, withdrawal has not been established for LSD. Rates of addiction among users of acid are lower than users of other drugs, with fewer than 0.1 percent  of the adult population meets the criteria for other hallucinogen use disorder. However, the risk of developing an addiction to hallucinogens may be higher for people who start taking the drug during adolescence. There are other long-term effects that can occur after taking acid, which indicates that it is not a safe drug to use. The unpredictability of the drug, even on experienced users, partly explains why people do not continue to use the drug on a long-term basis, although it can become one of many drugs that poly-drug users, people who take many different drugs, use along with other intoxicating drugs. A Word From Verywell The effects of taking acid dont always go away immediately when the drug wears off. People who have good experiences often feel it has improved their understanding of themselves, other people, or life, and describe this perspective as life-changing. Substance-induced mood disorder, substance-induced anxiety disorder, and flashbacks or hallucinogen persistent perception disorder are treatable conditions that can occur after taking acid.?? If you suffer from any of these symptoms, see your doctor for help.

Senior Synthesis My Belief or Disbelief in God Must be...

My belief (or disbelief) in God must be understood backwards, so I shall start from the beginning. From birth, my relationship with God was set in stone. Being raised in a moderately strong, Catholic family, and going to a Catholic pre-school and middle school, I had basically inherited my love for God from my parents, and they from theirs. I was taught in school and by my family that God should be at the center of everything. That God loves us more than us mere mortals can ever imagine, and that it is our sole duty to love him the best we can in return. This was so easy for me at a young age because my relationship with God was so unspoiled. It was not hard for me to love God when He had not thrown any real hardships my way. I had been brought up believing in a perfect God. One who was â€Å"all loving†, â€Å"all knowing†, and â€Å"ever-present†, and because of this, I believed my relationship with Him to be invincible. But I was wrong. The day my parents divo rced, was the day my inherently perfect relationship with God was ruined. The first traumatic experience in my life sent me on a whirlwind that caused me to doubt all the love that God had supposedly had for me; the love that I so foolishly believed in. In the weeks following the divorce, my mom quit going to church because she was afraid that the people there would judge her decision to leave my dad. Sadly, she could not have been more right. Coram, Robert Boyd The Fighter Pilot Who Changed the Art of War Free Essays

A biography of Col. John Boyd, Coram’s book reads much like the collection of interviews that it is. He gives the impression that if the reader happened upon any of these characters at happy hour, the stories would be identical. We will write a custom essay sample on Coram, Robert Boyd: The Fighter Pilot Who Changed the Art of War or any similar topic only for you Order Now Dispersed throughout the book is a supply of background information and context, glimpses and bits about family life, and a very understandable layman’s introduction to the scholarly work of John Boyd. Coram is an ex-newspaper man that has recently produced two military biographies. He lays out for his reader not only the successes of John Boyd, but the rough edges of the man as well. The brilliance that brought the engineering world the Energy-Maneuverability equations was balanced by Boyd’s egoism and anti-authoritarianism. Coram’s objective seems to be to reveal a principle regarding brilliant personnel: that they are invaluable to any organization, providing the leadership can stomach their idiosyncrasies. Coram sets his Boyd biography up in three sections: Fighter Pilot, Engineer and Scholar. The three sections are based on the three major accomplishments of Col. Boyd. As a fighter pilot, Boyd used his creative intellect to develop advanced techniques and tactics, based on his subconscious knowledge of the workings of maneuverability based on available energy. As an engineer, Boyd codified the principles of energy-maneuverability, and evaluated all of the fighter aircraft of the time using the equations he developed. This evaluation, although looked upon skeptically at the time, has been proven to be accurate, and the E-M theory continues to be used to both evaluate and design aircraft. As a scholar, Boyd evaluated decision-making and came up with the ODDA loop. (Observe, Orient, Decide, Act) This concept is a simple diagram of the decision making process, and has been disseminated widely, with variations, all the way from the military to driver training curriculum. A variation of the model is called IPDE; Identify, Predict, Decide, Execute. An old adage says that a man’s best work is done after 50, and I believe that John Boyd validated it. His Destruction and Creation essay, which Coram includes at the end of the biography, is a masterful assembly of the concepts of the Heisenberg Principle and Thermodynamics, applied to a type of his decision-making theory. Concepts of the present system of thought, combined with concepts from multiple other disciplines, can be creatively made into a composite that is more than the sum of the pieces used, and useful for further evaluation. This is essentially the synthesis used in the development of the E-M theory equations. Coram deals as respectfully as possible with the dysfunctional family life of Boyd. Several passages leave the reader deeply saddened that such a brilliant man could be at the same time so base. He also presents the distinct probability that Boyd’s personality and fighter-pilot approach to obstacles caused as many personal difficulties as it remedied. Coram also reveals the truth that presentation is paramount; as Boyd’s abrasive presentation of his ideas initially caused much individual resistance, and his masterful presentation of his ideas later on was the main reason that they became widely adopted. Altogether, a well written biography, that leaves my wishing I had sat thru at least a few happy hours with Col. Boyd and his associates, if only to hear the tall tales of a meritorious veteran warrior-scholar. Coram brings John Boyd to the reader as he was; brilliant, dauntless, abrasive, even offensive, but loyal to his cause and his message. He leaves the reader with the nagging question: Am I going to Do something, or be content to Be somebody? How to cite Coram, Robert Boyd: The Fighter Pilot Who Changed the Art of War, Papers

Paternity Leave for Men free essay sample

In society today, gender equality is becoming a big deal. Maternity leave has never been a questionable topic for new mothers, however it becomes controversial when it comes to new fathers. It is of extreme importance not only to the mothers but to the fathers as well. It is a great deal for new dads to share with the early bonding experiences and care for both mother and child. The men should be able to get a decent amount of time off to be able to share in this very special time. If companies offered this option for men, it would be a huge ordeal. They would be able to attend the birth and any important appointments that need to be attended. With paternity leave the men are given the privilege of being able to share in on the first stages of the child’s life. They also get the opportunity of being there for the child so dad can get to know the child and learn the needs the child has. We will write a custom essay sample on Paternity Leave for Men or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page â€Å"The increase in the number of men taking leave may be attributed in part, says Doucet, to changes made to the Employment Insurance Act in 2000, which increased the total parental leave time from six months to one year, thus allowing more time for dads to bring up 2baby†(National Post 2007). A trusted pediatrician has to be found following the birth and fathers can assist the mothers with this process. Paternity leave also will allow both parents time to get daycare arrangements together if both parents have to return back to work. Having dad around would be beneficial to mom if she delivered baby by Cesarean. This procedure is very painful and forces mom to limit her mobility and lifting. After this surgery, it is very important that mom has someone around to help her throughout her healing process. Child birth is a lot of hard work. It can really take a lot of the new mother. A new mother is normally emotionally and physically drained after giving birth. That is why it is very crucial for companies to allow men paternity leave so that they can help with the rigorous routine that they now have to get used to. A lot of mothers just want to come home and sleep. This is where dad comes in and gives mom that break she needs. During that time of paternity leave, â€Å"only 13 percent of employers in this country offer men any paid time off for birth or adoption† (The Record 2006). All new mothers need assistance when it comes to a new baby. Babies require a lot of attention and sometimes mommy will not always have the energy to do a whole lot at first. Paternity leave for new fathers would be not only rewarding for the new dad when it comes to bonding, but also prove to be very beneficial to the new mother as well.

Cloning Essays (694 words) - Cloning, Molecular Biology, Genetics

Cloning Cloning Bioethics, which is the study of value judgments pertaining to human conduct in the area of biology and includes those related to the practice of medicine, has been an important aspect of all areas in the scientific field (Bernstein, Maurice, M.D.). It is one of the factors that says whether or not specific scientific research can go on, and if it can, by which rules, regulations and guidelines it must abide by. One of the most recent and controversial issues facing our society today is the concept of cloning. On February 23, 1997, Ian Wilmut, a Scottish scientist, along with his colleagues at the Roslin Institute and PPL Therapeutics, announced to the world that they had cloned a lamb, which they named Dolly, after Dolly Parton, from an adult sheep (Mario,Christopher). The two share the same nucleic DNA, but differ in terms of their mitochondrial DNA, which is vitally important for the regulation of the cell. The media and the press ignored this fact, and thus claimed that Dolly and her 'mother' were genetically identical, which sparked a fury of outcry all around the world. The technique of transferring a nucleus from a somatic cell into an egg cell of which the nucleus had been removed, called nuclear transplantation, is an extension of research that had been ongoing for over 40 years. Up until now, scientists thought that adult cells could not be reprogrammed to behave like a fertilized egg and create an embryo, but the evidence obtained by Dolly's success prove otherwise. The issues of cloning have been around for a long time, starting with the publication of Joshua Lederberg's 1966 article on cloning in the American Naturalist. The public's interest has been perked by many sci-fi books, films, and movies including Aldous Huxley's 1932 novel Brave New World, 1973's Sleeper, the 1978 film The Boys from Brazil. Most recently, the movie Multiplicity dealt with replicating Billy Crystal over and over (Mario, Christopher). The ethical, legal, and moral issues aroused by cloning have been raised by previous projects, and are now simply emerging again, with its focus on three major points: the shift from sexual reproduction with that of asexual replication of existing genes; the ability to predetermine the genes of a child; and the ability to create many genetically identical children (Report/Recommendations of the NBAC). The public responded to Dolly with a mixture of fear and excitement, questioning the benefits and the disasters that could happen in the future if research was to continue. From a poll taken by Maurice Bernstein, M.D., the results showed that 72% of the votes said that cloning should be prohibited by law. They believe that cloning for any reason would be an unethical and immoral thing to do. A common misconception of cloning is that it is the instantaneous creation of a fully-grown adult from the cells of the individual. Also, that an exact copy, although much younger, of an existing person could be made, reflecting the belief that one's genes bear a simple relationship to the physical and psychological traits that make up a person. This is one point that those against cloning are often worried about. That the clone would have no soul, no mind, no feelings or emotions of their own, no say in how their life will be with their destiny predetermined for them, and that each individual clone would not be unique. They are also afraid that the clone will not be treated like a person, more like a worthless second copy, or a fill-in for what was there but now is lost. Although the genes do play an important part, its the interaction among a person's genetic inheritance, their environment, memories, different life experiences, and the process of learning that results in the uniqueness of each individual (Mario, Christopher). The risks involved in cloning people as well as animals are of a much greater magnitude than many people realize. Our society needs to begin weighing in the dangerous consequences before making any solid conclusions, because cloning may wind up costing us much more than we bargained for. The most beneficial result that cloning can present is the ability to create organs. But, we must realize the risks involved as well. There would most likely be many failures before there were to be even one success, and there is no substantial evidence that this would even be possible. So, the risks seem to greatly outweigh any possible benefits. Medicine

Key Takeaways: Interjections Interjections are short phrases often used to exclaim. They can stand on their own as sentences. Because theyre often used to exclaim, interjections carry some emotion with them and can make fictional dialogue more realistic. Theyre of course all over comic books, especially superheroes fighting evil. Interjections are the outlaws of English grammar as illustrated in this writers other interjections piece: Interjections usually stand apart from normal sentences, defiantly maintaining their syntactic independence. Thats exciting!Yummy: Yummy! I love chocolate cake! Single or Double-Duty Parts of Speech Interjections have traditionally been treated as one of the eight parts of speech  (or word classes). But its worth keeping in mind that many interjections  can do double or triple duty as other parts of speech. For instance, when a  word such as boy or awesome appears by itself (often followed by an exclamation point in writing), it functions as an interjection: Boy! You have an answer for everything. The crew chief handed me my first paycheck. Awesome! I said. But when that same word shows up syntactically integrated into a sentence, it usually operates as a different part of speech. In the following examples, boy is a noun, and awesome is an adjective: The boy ate a Snickers bar.Seeing the northern lights for the first time was an awesome experience. Words that are used only  as interjections are called primary interjections, while words that also belong to other word classes are called secondary interjections.   Oh! Heres something else to look out for. The meanings of interjections sometimes change depending on the context  in which theyre used. The word oh, for example, may indicate surprise, disappointment, or delight: Oh! I didnt see you sitting there.Oh. I was hoping you could stay for a while.Oh! Im so glad you came!

Content Management Systems Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Content Management Systems - Essay Example Rather, users act as passive beneficiaries who receive the information on the web pages just as they have been stored. This means that given a number of users receiving information from a single server, all users will at any given time receive the same information. Even though the internet has today come to be a great transformation that depends on the principles of content management system in a dynamic way, Eldridge (2001) notes that the internet used to consist solely of HTML or static web pages, that is, web pages that are not changed before being displayed in a web browser. 2. How are CMS currently being used? Today, content management system is at the centre of the internet and controls almost all web site creation processes. Present internet experts and web creating experts depend on content management system to â€Å"lower the barriers to entry and make it much easier to launch a site, keep it updated and get more out of it† (Miller, 2012). This means that content mana gement system is currently being used to do away with impediments that made the accessibility to websites more difficult in times past. It is also being used to make the ownership and maintenance of websites more free flowing and easy. What is even better is that unlike the days when the internet was dominated with static pages, web hosts are able to update their web pages more quickly and promptly. It is not for nothing that today we have websites that are dedicated to giving live score of sports activities. 3. Types of CMS (include cost and size) Content management system comes in a number of types. Commonest among these that will be treated include enterprise and open source. Each of these comes in different size and different cost management that accompany them. a. Enterprise As the name implies, Enterprise Content Management System (ECMS) works for established enterprises in managing their ill-structured and haphazard documents, content, records and facts. Enterprise content ma nagement system can therefore be described as an electronic organizational process for an organization. Because of the task involved, which entails getting the disorganized organized, enterprise content management system is often cost involving. Its size however depends on the size of the enterprise in question. Once duly delivered, enterprise will ensure integrity, protected security and elimination of all forms of bottlenecks in the organization’s operations. b. Open Source Open source allows for accessibility to already existing content management systems. This is not to say that it changes static pages to dynamic pages but then it enhances the function and work of dynamic pages by creating multi-functionality such as access to motion pictures. Because this is an optional component to web pages, it is mostly not costly to the user because he decides to use by choice. Open source however makes the webpage sizes bigger. 4. CMS Functionality Content management system function ality is combination of a number of integrated activities and processes that need to be carried out to make the functioning of any webpage complete and successful. In the absence of effective content management system functionality in place, it will be impossible to amass the total benefit of a website for business returns. Functionality therefore involves processes such as updating content from

Personal & Business Taxation PowerPoint Presentation

Personal & Business Taxation - PowerPoint Presentation Example Basically, there are domains for the taxation in UK, they are personal taxation and company taxation. Personal taxation is required for a UK resident who spent 183 days in UK during a tax year and he earned a net income which is taxable according to the law in place in the taxable year. Company or business taxation is applicable if the company situates in the UK and it is payable as given below Though this is the general tax rate for a company, UK tax law has given a tax-rate relief for small businesses in order to encourage entrepreneurship and enhance job creation as well as small-business innovation. Removing tax barriers and thus to ensure small business growth was one of the main aims for this tax relief (Freedman, 2003, p. 22). But this has been widely questioned whether this tax relief make any contribution to economic growth or whether this targeting is achieved. In UK, the small business rate relief is normally administered by the concerned local authority. A business man, no matter whether it is sole proprietorship or partnership or other form of business, will be eligible for tax relief if his taxable value is below  £18,000 (but  £25,500 in London). If the rateable value of a small business is just  £6,000 or lower, the small business rate multiplier will be used along with a 50 percent relief. If the rateable value is between  £6,001 to  £11,999, the small business rate multiplier will be used and the rate relief will be between 0 to 50 percent. If the rateable amount is above  £12,000 and less than  £18,000, there won’t be any relief, but only small business rate multiplier will be used (Business Link,

Hospital Web Application Design for Elderly Patients

Hospital Web Application Design for Elderly Patients The aim of this project is to develop an elderly friendly web application which can be used to book hospital appointments online and also interact with Doctors via skype. It also can be used by doctors to maintain patient records which can be given read access to patients to their records. This aim also needs us to answer few things and the first one would be to address the needs of ageing population in learning how to use a computer if they dont know already and also using a web application which would cater their needs and make their lives easy. We will also discuss the specific difficulties faced by the ageing population in learning computer skills which will in turn help them using a web application easily. Older adults and technology Health takes a down turn when a person gets old and in the future years the number of older adults are going to increase according to many statistics. This could lead to being hospitals and clinics overfilled and become more in demand. Due to several factors, older adults will need supervision in their health from proper health care practitioners (Codreanu Florea, 2016). Perception of control is one of the most important factors in determining ones place on a social environment. To keep up with the new technologies younger generation use older generation are learning new computer technology faster than the younger generation (Morrell, 2002). To avoid themselves from socially isolating in this day and age older adults learn computer skills and also learn how to use internet. And some even contradict Morrell saying that older adults learn computer skills slower due to physiological changes which makes their learning process slow. Older adults can integrate with the modern society by learning how to use new technology and also know how to learn new stuff from internet on their own. There are many E-learning programs which can be used by the ageing population to learn anything. Most of the times older adults make the government of a country to to question its own policy towards people working after they retire. In the same way, they should also be able to integrate with the rest of the society to use latest web applications which are in the market and adapt to them and for them to adapt to it, the application creators should focus that there are plenty of older adults as well who might use their application in a day to day basis. To dive deep into the discussion of why web applications should be older adult friendly we will discuss the myths around older adults using web applications, how older adults are engaging themselves in learning latest technology and also the obstacles they face in using a web application (Githens, 2007). The goal of this project is to focus on the guidelines to be followed which can make the older adults involve in using web applications and also focus on other opportunities related to it in the favor of older adults and companies which develop web applications. How retirement is changing? Life expectancies have been increasing which has also increased the retirement years proportionally. Due to this the older adults value, all the benefits they get from employment after retirements such as financial, social, physiological and many more. Those employments may be full-time, part-time, paid, unpaid or even a temporary employment (Hale, 1990). With this and also seeing organizations dealing with new talents due to reduction of experienced workers due to retirement we could say that retirement is an outdated concept (Stein and Rocco, 2001). With the research done in the past decade it is seen that the new talents also want to be working after they retire, which is about 80% in 2005 (Dychtwald, 2017). With this spirit the notion of retirement will be transformed in the future as these new talents are the ones which bring big changes in the current world. The world-wide web or as we call the internet is not just for the younger generation. With many new applications like Quora, Facebook and many more we have seen that the internet is accepting individuals all around the world irrespective of the age and it is also seen that there has been an increasing number in the people of older age group. To determine the exact number would be difficult as any precise number which comes up will be obsolete after it gets recorded.

Social Influence Research - Do the Ends Justify the Means? Essay

Social Influence Research - Do the Ends Justify the Means? To what extent does the importance of social influence research, justify the methods used in its investigation? The debate about ethics in psychology focuses on two areas: protection of participants and benefiting society. This is a double obligation dilemma as if some psychologists are not allowed to do certain experiments because of ethical restraints; this can cause problems with validity. In social psychology, these psychologists have an obligation to use their research skills to advance our knowledge of human behaviour, for the ultimate aim of human betterment. Milgram’s study into obedience involved participants becoming a ‘teacher’ and applying an electric shock to the ‘learner’ (who was a confederate) when they answered a word association question incorrectly. The participant was not aware that the shocks they administered were false and some believed they may have killed a man. In this instance therefore, the code of conduct and ethical guidelines published by the British Psychological Society (BPS) and American Psychological Society (APS) in 1993 were broken in more than one way. The participants’ right to withdraw was disabled as the prods given by the experimenter (such as â€Å"please continue† etc) made the participants feel that they had no choice but to continue. The were also involved in deception as they thought they had administered real shocks and were not informed of the confederate being present. This study, however, was conducted in the 1950’s and the ethical guidelines were not in position and therefore this study may be published in modern day t... ...very case. For example, there was only one prisoner who tried to resist and went on a hunger strike. When he was put into solitary confinement the others were allowed to release him by means of giving up their blankets. They refused. They saw they situation as every man for themselves. Another benefit to society was also the impression this experiment left on the prison system in America at the time, and some aspects of this were changed as a result. Therefore in conclusion, in these two experiments alone, the unethical methods used can be justified as they have helped to profit humanity by providing insight into how humans behave when put into certain social situations. Without these ethical guidelines being broken, both experiments would have lacked ecological validity and the results would not be legitimate.
